Many rivers to cross
But I can`t seem to find my way over
Wandering I am lost as I travel along
The white cliffs of Dover
Many rivers to cross and it`s only my will
That keeps me alive
I`ve been licked, washed up for years and,
I merely survive because of my pride.
And this loneliness won`t leave me alone
It`s such a drag to be on your own
My woman left and she did`nt say why

70年代后期，当雷盖音乐（Reggae，港台地区又译"雷鬼音乐"）在欧美找到了广阔的市场后，众多音乐家开始纷纷效仿。其中以英国的"UB40"乐队和"警察"乐队最为知名。
"UB40"成立于1977年，乐队阵容庞大，有8位成员，他们来自英国的伯明翰。UB40是英国救济福利组织的代号，由于建队时大部分成员都失业，需要填写UB40的社会福利救济表，他们便以此作为乐队的名称。1983年，乐队达到高峰状态，他们演唱的《红红的葡萄酒》（Red Red Wine）独占排行榜榜首，在这首经典作品中，人们充分领受到了"雷盖音乐"那节奏张驰有度、旋律清新流畅的独特美感，直到今天，"UB40"乐队仍乐此不疲。
